How to Collect Seeds

Our seed is shared for FREE by growers from across London who are interested in building skills and sharing knowledge in the practice of seed saving.

2025 Seed collection!

We will be distributing seeds via pop-up seed collection events in January / February 2025 – check back soon for details. If you would like to host a seed distribution event – get in touch!

Before attending any seed collection events please take some time to look through our available Varieties and make a list of the Seed Batches you would like to grow this year.

Please get in touch via email freedomseedbank@gmail.com or in our Whatsapp group LFSB Growers Network.

We also hope to take LFSB seed to several seed swaps in early 2025… follow us on Instagram to find out where/ when: @freedomseedbank

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do you supply seed for regular food growing?

Our seed is shared through a network to support the practice of seed saving and sharing. If you are looking for general supplies of seed for food growing we recommend these excellent UK based seed suppliers: Real Seeds, Vital Seeds.

Do i have to have already donated seeds in order to receive seeds?

No, if you are a new or existing seed saver – welcome – anyone with a London postcode can get free seed at certain times of the year. You will need to register online as a part of our grower network which takes 2 minutes and is free. You can register at any time.

What is the quality of LFSB seed?

There are no guarantees, but garden saved seed often out-performs commercially grown seed because it is fresher, and grown in conditions similar to your growing space. For best germination rates, request seed from the last year or two. Depending on the type, if you request older seed then germination and seedling growth may be less strong. If requesting an older batch we recommend a germination test. If you do this, please let us know the results so we can keep our records updated.

What if I don’t like the varieties I grow, or they don’t grow well?

Our varieties tend to be those that other growers have found suited to London growing conditions. But if you get seed from the LFSB which doesn’t perform well, or you prefer another variety you are growing then we would happily receive that seed back instead.  We would always encourage growers to save seed from the varieties that they like the best and we are always looking to build our range of varieties that do well in London conditions.

What is the LFSB Growers Network?

An informal group of growers with which to share experiences, tips and learn more about seed saving. We organise occasional online meet-ups, and in person when possible, and a Whatsapp group. Request to join the Grower’s Network Whatsapp group by emailing: londonfreedomseedbank@gmail.com

I run a community growing project / charity and am looking for seed for food growing – or for workshops. Can you supply me?

If your project has a focus on seed saving, or you are running seed saving workshops, then we may be able to supply you with one of our bulk ‘Solidarity Packs’ for Community Gardens. Email us with further details: freedomseedbank@gmail.com
